INTERPRETIVE
WOOD SCULPTURES - MOVEMENT IN WOOD: DESIGNING TO SHINE -
J. Christopher White -
How to enhance a subject through movement, stylization, & contrasts using
juniper wood for one small free form project & then a larger project of your own
choosing & design. You will see the potential of a piece of wood, working with
its strengths, grain patterns, & weathered parts. You will learn how the wood
can provide the habitat for the subject & how to design a piece to shine &
polish to its maximum beauty with emphasis on balance, positive & negative
space, & use of concave planes to enhance movement, & using grain patterns to
your advantage. You can use gouges, foredom with typhoon burrs, saws, rasps, &
any other tools you may wish to use.
2008 WORKSHOP Schedule
I have decided to
limit my teaching to just several classes per year here in beautiful Loveland, CO.
I am going this route for several reasons:
 |
The students get a
better deal by having my time spread out over 3 to 4 students versus 10 to 13
students.
|
 |
There is a greater
selection of wood for students (and I don't have to charge the students for
boxing and shipping it).
|
 |
The student's get to
eat my wife's wonderful healthy cooking for lunch each day.
|
 |
If the student's are
still standing at the end of the day, Loveland is a great place to visit. There
is lots of shopping, the Sculpture Park, nearby Estes Park and Rocky
Mountain National Park as well as plenty of other things to see and do (spouses
have enjoyed the time in Colorado as well).
|
 |
I don't have to travel
and spend 2 days in airports.
|
Upcoming 2008 Classes:
Loveland, CO
April 7-11, 2008
October 6-10, 2008
Maximum of 4 students
cost $650.
